UKRAINE'S CONTRIBUTION TO MODERN ANTARCTIC RESEARCH: BIBLIOGRAPHY AND BIBLIOMETRIC ANALYSIS OF SCIENTIFIC WORKS DOMESTIC SCIENTISTS AND SPECIALISTS (2007-2017) (Agreement No. N/2 –2017 dated “5 July 2017 with the State Institution “National Antarctic Scientific Center of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine»)
(Contractual Theme)
Project Manager: Rybachuk V.P., Senior Researcher, Candidate of Chemical Sciences
Deadline: 05.07.2017–31.12.2017
Purpose of the research work:
- Creation of a bibliography of scientific works of Ukrainian scientists and specialists on the study of Antarctica for the period 2007-2017;
- determination of trends in the development of Ukrainian research in Antarctica and the place and contribution of Ukraine to global research in the Antarctic region;
- – bibliographic support and scientometric monitoring of the implementation of the State Targeted Scientific and Technical Program for Research in Antarctica for 2011-2020;
- – promotion of the dissemination of scientific, popular science and other information regarding Ukraine’s activities in the Antarctic region of the planet.
Annotated report on the results of the implementation
A bibliographical search was carried out and a source information array was formed for compiling an annotated bibliography using domestic and foreign abstract databases, bibliographical indexes, web resources and official documents of international bodies of the Antarctic Treaty system.
Main results, their scientific novelty and significance:
A scientometric analysis of the bibliography was performed and, based on it, a positive trend in Ukraine's contribution to modern Antarctic research was revealed. It was shown that scientists and specialists of Ukraine, primarily the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, in close cooperation with foreign colleagues from almost 20 countries, are actively developing scientific research and applied developments in priority areas of science defined by international bodies of the Antarctic Treaty system.
The results obtained have no analogues in Ukraine and correspond to world trends in information support for scientific research in Antarctica. The bibliography that has been compiled also acquires a certain relevance in connection with the 25th anniversary of the modern period of Ukraine's activities in Antarctica (2017) and the development of the draft State Targeted Scientific and Technical Program for Research in Antarctica for the next period (after 2020).
The results of the research work performed create the necessary information base for bibliographic and scientometric support for the development of Ukrainian research in Antarctica within the framework of the State Targeted Scientific and Technical Program for Research in Antarctica for 2011-2020.
«COLLECTION AND PROCESSING OF BIOGRAPHICAL REFERENCES AND PHOTO MATERIALS FOR THE POPULAR SCIENCE PUBLICATION “OUTSTANDING FIGURES OF UKRAINE’S ROCKET AND SPACE”” (Agreement No. 060115 for the implementation of scientific research dated 6 January 2015 with the State Enterprise “KB “Pivdenne”)
Project Manager – Doctor of Economics, Professor Malitskyi B.A.
Deadline: 01.01.2017-31.12.2017
Subject of the SRT:
Conducting a scientific study on the topic “Collection and processing of biographical information and photo materials for the popular science publication “Outstanding figures of Ukraine in rocket and space”” in the following sections: “The first rocket engineers and theorists of cosmonautics; Pioneers of scientific research of the Universe; Heads and chief designers of leading enterprises of the USSR/Russia; Heads of testing and operation of rocket and space technology of the USSR; Heads of cosmonaut training and cosmonautics of the USSR/Russia; Astronauts of the USA and Canada of Ukrainian origin; Heads of leading rocket and space enterprises of Ukraine; Heads of the Commission/Council for Space Research of the Academy of Sciences of Ukraine; Heads of areas of scientific space research; Heads of areas of scientific research on the creation of rocket and space technology”.
Main results of scientific research, their scientific novelty and significance:
- A brief history of rocket and space science and technology of Ukraine within the USSR (1951–1991) has been written and published, which is presented in a global context, in particular, the creation of the Yuzhnoye Design Bureau with the affiliates of four generations of combat missiles, a number of launch vehicles and spacecraft has been highlighted, a number of new archival documents and materials, new names and results have been introduced into scientific circulation.
- Articles on the scientific and technical schools of Utkin and Sergeyev in the rocket and space industry were first written and published. Their role as scientific leaders in the formation of these informal collectives is shown, their priority results are highlighted, and the personal composition of these schools is revealed.
- A concept and a prospectus of a collective multi-volume monograph "History of Rocket and Space Science and Technology of Ukraine" have been developed, in which the history of rocket and space science and technology of Ukraine is highlighted through the created combat missiles, carrier rockets, spacecraft (actual history), enterprises, organizations and scientific institutes that participated in the formation and development of rocket and space science and technology of Ukraine, as well as through biographies of scientists, engineers and designers who have contributed to this industry.
- In fulfillment of the General Agreement on Cooperation between the NAS of Ukraine and the Yuzhnoye Design Bureau, under which the department participates in the preparation and creation of the monograph "History of Rocket and Space Science and Technology of Ukraine", the following sections were written for it: the first section "The Initial Stage of World Rocket Science and Technology (1926–1944)", which reveals the emergence and formation of rocketry as the first, initial stage in the development of rocket science and technology. The contribution of a number of Ukrainian inventors at the international level is shown. These data, scattered across various publications, were first systematized and collected together (Yu.O. Khramov, G.G. Kostyuk, Yu.I. Mushkalo); the third section "Military-political and scientific-technical prerequisites for the intensification of work in nuclear and rocket science and technology in the USSR in 1945–1954 with the aim of creating nuclear rocket weapons". Based on literary, memoir and archival sources, a brief history of missile and nuclear weapons in the USSR in 1945–1954 is reconstructed in a global context, and the factors that contributed to its accelerated creation are revealed. For the first time, the history of Soviet nuclear and thermonuclear bombs and combat missiles is considered in close interaction, respectively, within the framework of nuclear and missile projects.
- A number of documents and materials on the history of rocket and space science and technology of Ukraine were first found in the archives of Ukraine (after declassification) and published. 111 files f.1, op. 24 of the Central State Archive of the State Archives of Ukraine were registered, 63 files were reviewed. 86 documents on the work of 11 academic institutes on rocket and space topics were identified and selected.
