  1. Onoprienko V.I. Legends of Soviet Science. Essays about scientists –. – Saarbrücken (Deutschland): Lambert Academic Publishing, 2015. – 690 S. ISBN 978-3-659-77025-8

The tasks of building a socialist society in the USSR were always correlated with the leading role of science. First of all, science had to replace religion in the worldview. Declarations about the primacy of science were combined with a repressive policy towards the intelligentsia. The industrialization of the country, the war of 1941-1945, the task of restoring the economy, the atomic and space programs became powerful impulses for the development of science and technology, the scientific and technical potential of the country, and the emergence of new branches of science and industry. The book is not only about outstanding scientists who received public recognition and well-deserved awards during their lifetime, but also about those who were subjected to ostracism and repression in the totalitarian state, but whose scientific legacy resonated in subsequent decades, including abroad. In the essays, emphasis is placed on identifying the real and practical contribution of the scientist and his meaning in perspective and retrospectively. The prestige of science in society had an impact on the development of the education system and on the life orientations of new generations. For those who work in science and are interested in its history, university professors, everyone who is touched by the fate of science.

Keywords: Science, technology, history of science, physics, Earth sciences, humanities, space, Soviet Union, scientists, engineers.
