  1. Onopriienko V.I. Postgraduate Studies. The Thorns and Risks of Becoming a Researcher by V.I. Onopriienko. – Saarbrücken (Deutschland): Lambert Academic Publishing, 2016. – 119 S. ISBN 978-3-659-95378-21

The book examines the training and certification of researchers and professors at European and Russian universities, postgraduate study as a form of mass training of scientific and technical personnel for industrial society in the USSR, postgraduate study in Ukraine during the transition period, and the problems of training personnel for science amid the crisis of the scientific system. A survey of doctoral students at institutes of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine and universities was conducted, trends in postgraduate training and attempts to evaluate the effectiveness of postgraduate study are analysed, and the importance of a competitive environment for career success in a global research society is assessed. The experience of training doctoral students in leading foreign countries is presented. Based on findings regarding the shortcomings in the quality of doctoral students, the bureaucatisation of dissertation defence and personnel certification procedures, and the remoteness of postgraduate programme performance from the challenges of modern science in a globalising world, it is predicted that postgraduate programmes will be expanded through postdoctoral training at foreign universities and research centres. This training is capable of targeting the knowledge and qualifications of doctoral students for work in the highly competitive environment of modern science and high technology.
